Xander Knox
Accepting new clientsAbout Xander
Like plants striving to grow in the harshest of environments, I have an earnest faith in the ability of all human beings to reach towards healing. This is expressed in my capacity for co-regulation and empathetic understanding in the therapeutic setting. I carry an implicit trust in the relationship between counselor and client to form the foundation of the work that can be accomplished when all are invested in a shared goal. The healing power of therapy is embodied in the relationship between people. I meet clients where they are and work to provide a helping hand in navigating the complicate realities of our modern chaotic life.
Healing flows from agency. I utilize a person-centered approach that informs an otherwise eclectic toolkit to uncover, along with clients, what therapeutic elements may be helpful in any given situation. I draw from established principles in Ecopsychology, evidence-based treatment for substance use disorder and trauma, and evolutionary psychology in my work.
I build the work that I do from the idea that a connection with our best selves is more difficult when our narratives develop from a place of trauma. In a world that demands strict categories and forces naturally ambiguous human beings to conform with them, trauma underlies most decisions I see made around me. I don't believe this is necessary or inevitable. I am able to offer sessions both in office and outside.
