Types of Therapy
There are many approaches to therapy, each with its own strengths. Here are some of the most common types available from Oregon therapists.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. Effective for anxiety, depression, PTSD, and phobias.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories. One of the most evidence-based treatments for PTSD.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Combines CBT with mindfulness techniques. Originally developed for borderline personality disorder, now widely used for emotional regulation.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Explores unconscious patterns and past experiences that influence current behavior. Good for deep self-understanding and long-standing patterns.
Somatic Experiencing
A body-centered approach that helps release trauma stored in the body through gentle awareness of physical sensations.
Art Therapy
Uses creative expression as a therapeutic tool. Particularly effective for children, trauma survivors, and those who find verbal processing difficult.
