AI assistants

Use the directory with your AI assistant

If you already talk to Claude or ChatGPT, you can point it at this directory and ask for a therapist the way you would ask a friend who knows Oregon. It reads the same verified listings my search page shows, then sends you to the profile when you are ready to reach out.

You ask your assistant for a therapist, it reads orcounselors.com through a read-only connection with no key, and you get back a provider verified on the directory. What your assistant can do

How the connection works: you ask your assistant, it calls the orcounselors.com MCP endpoint (read-only, no key), the directory answers with providers verified on the directory, and you open a profile page where the contact form lives. 1234 You askYour assistant callsThe directory answersYou open a profile “A therapist in Bendwho takes OHP.” /api/v1/mcpread-only, no key only providers verifiedon the directory bio, fees, insurance, and the contact form How the connection works: you ask your assistant, it calls the orcounselors.com MCP endpoint (read-only, no key), the directory answers with providers verified on the directory, and you open a profile page where the contact form lives. 1234 You askYour assistant calls the directoryThe directory answersYou open a profile “A therapist in Bendwho takes OHP.” /api/v1/mcpread-only, no account, no key only providers verifiedon the directory bio, fees, insurance, and the contact form
The connection reads the directory and never writes to it. Contact happens on the profile page, not through your assistant.
  • Search verified providers on the directory by city or ZIP, what they treat, how they work (EMDR, CBT, IFS and so on), insurance including OHP and its CCOs, telehealth, sliding scale, language, and whether they have said they are taking new clients.
  • Open a full profile: bio, specialties, approaches, insurance, fees, session formats, the practice they belong to, and their links.
  • Find group practices and clinics, and see which verified clinicians are listed there.
  • Look up one provider by name, if you already have a name from a friend or a referral.
  • Ask which filter values exist, so it searches with the words the directory uses.
  • Read my guides and articles on therapy types and on finding care in Oregon.

Set it up

The address is the same everywhere:

https://orcounselors.com/api/v1/mcp

No sign-in, no key. Paste it, name the connection whatever you like, save. Pick your assistant below for the steps.

claude.ai

Open Claude’s Connectors settings
  1. Go to Settings, then Customize, then Connectors.

  2. Click Add, then choose Add custom connector.

  3. Give it a name and paste the address, then click Continue.

    https://orcounselors.com/api/v1/mcp
  4. Claude detects that no sign-in is needed; leave that as is and click Add.

  5. On the next screen click Connect.

  6. Each lookup then asks your permission once. To skip the prompts, set the read-only tools to Always allow on that same screen.

This works on the Free plan (one custom connector allowed) and on paid plans, in the browser and in the desktop and phone apps. The connector you add here is the same one the apps use, so you set it up once.

Claude Code

  1. Open a terminal.

  2. Paste this one line and press Enter.

claude mcp add --transport http orcounselors https://orcounselors.com/api/v1/mcp

ChatGPT

I am submitting an official Oregon Counselors plugin to OpenAI for review. You do not have to wait for it: the four steps below connect the same directory to ChatGPT today, and they take about a minute.

  1. Go to Settings, then Integrations, then Plugins.

  2. Open Browse directory, choose Add, then Add custom MCP server.

  3. Paste the address.

    https://orcounselors.com/api/v1/mcp
  4. Set Authentication to No authentication, and create it.

There is no developer mode to switch on. When the official plugin is approved, I will add a one-click link here.

Other MCP clients

  1. Look for Connectors (some clients say MCP servers) in the client’s settings.

  2. Add a new connection and paste the address.

    https://orcounselors.com/api/v1/mcp
  3. Leave authentication off; there is none.

Any client that speaks MCP over HTTP can use the address above. It answers in plain JSON and still accepts the older initialize handshake, so older clients work too. If the menus have moved since I wrote this, look for Connectors in settings.

Meta AI and Muse

Meta has not opened a connector path yet. Muse drives its own browser, so just ask it to search orcounselors.com and it will use the site like a person would.

What it can read

Fourteen read-only tools, in plain words, with the kind of question that reaches each one. The technical summary is at orcounselors.com/llms.txt.

  • search_providersSearch verified providers by place, concern, approach, insurance, and more.“Find a therapist in Bend who takes OHP.”
  • find_provider_by_nameLook up one person by name. The only tool that can also return a community listing, labeled as such.“Is there a listing for the counselor my friend mentioned?”
  • get_providerOpen one full profile: bio, specialties, approaches, insurance, fees, session formats, practice, links.“Tell me more about the second one.”
  • search_practicesFind verified group practices and clinics.“Which group practices in Eugene take Kaiser?”
  • get_practiceOne practice in full, with the verified clinicians listed there.“Who works at that clinic?”
  • list_filter_optionsThe words the directory uses for each filter, with how many verified providers match.“What insurance plans can I search by?”
  • search_articlesSearch my published guides and articles.“What has Eric written about EMDR?”
  • get_articleThe full text of one article.“Read me the one about OHP.”
  • search_partnersFind the billing services, networks, and resources that partner with the directory.“Is there a medical biller who works with therapists?”
  • get_partnerOne partner in full, with what they offer, their website, and anything they have published here.“What does that billing company do?”
  • list_videosVideos from my lessons, articles, practices, and partners, each with a link to watch.“Show me a short video on superbills.”
  • search_appsSearch the App Store listings: apps and tools made for clients and clinicians.“Is there an app for practicing mindfulness?”
  • get_appOne app in full, with screenshots, platforms, price, and a link to the maker’s site.“What does that app look like?”
  • search_learnSearch my lessons for clinicians in private practice, from forming an LLC to marketing.“How do I bill with a superbill?”

What it will not do

  • Change anything. The connection is read-only. It cannot edit a listing, send an inquiry, or book a session. Nothing you type reaches a provider through it.
  • Hand over private contact details. No phone numbers, no email addresses, no street addresses, no license numbers come back. Your assistant gets a link to the profile, and the profile has the contact form. ChatGPT may add phone numbers or addresses from its own web search; the connection itself never sends them.
  • Show you unverified providers in search. Every provider the search tools return is verified on the directory.
  • Pass off a community listing as a verified one. A name lookup can return a community listing, which is a public-record entry the provider has not written or claimed. It is labeled as such, and your assistant should say so.
  • Give medical advice. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 first.

Things people ask it

  • “Find a therapist in Bend who takes OHP and is taking new clients.”
  • “I want EMDR for trauma, video sessions are fine, and I’m on PacificSource.”
  • “Is there a Spanish-speaking couples counselor near Salem?”

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. No account, no key, no charge. There is a per-minute limit so one script cannot crowd everyone else out, and a normal conversation never gets near it.

Is my data stored?

Your conversation stays with your assistant's company under their policies; I never see it. What reaches my server is the search itself (a city, a specialty, an insurance name), the same as if you typed it into the site. I keep a short cache of results keyed to the search, not to you, and no cookie is set.

Why verified only?

I run this directory as a practicing Oregon counselor, and I would rather your assistant come back with fewer names than hand you someone who has not been verified on the directory. The site also lists public-record entries from the state boards, but search through the connection skips them on purpose.

I'm a provider. Can my assistant update my listing?

Not yet. Signing in through your assistant and editing your own listing is a later phase, with the same limits the dashboard enforces. For now, make changes in the dashboard.

Providers: your listing is edited at orcounselors.com/dashboard. The assistant connection reads it; it does not write it.
