EMDR and Brainspotting in Bend
Some memories refuse to file themselves away. A crash, a deployment, a violent relationship, a childhood that never felt safe: the event ends, but the body keeps reacting as if it hasn't. EMDR and Brainspotting exist for exactly this.
How the two approaches differ
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) uses structured sets of eye movements while you hold a distressing memory in mind. Over repeated sets, the memory loses its charge. It stays a memory; it stops being an alarm. Brainspotting works from a related observation: where you look affects how you feel. Your therapist helps you find the eye position connected to the stuck material, then keeps you there while your brain does the processing it never got to finish.
Both are structured, body-based, and typically faster than working through trauma with conversation alone. Many clients who felt that years of talk therapy "managed" their symptoms find these approaches actually resolve them.
What treatment looks like at BCB
Randy Wild, the practice founder, has used EMDR since the early years of the practice and trains other clinicians in it. Sessions begin with history and grounding skills, so you are never dropped into the deep end. Processing starts only when you have the tools to stay steady.
EMDR and Brainspotting both work well over secure video, so treatment is available anywhere in Oregon, not just at the Bend office. They also pair naturally with biofeedback for clients whose bodies need help settling between sessions.
