Biofeedback, neurofeedback, and HeartMath
The "B" in BCB stands for biofeedback, and it has been part of the practice since 2004. The premise is simple to state and surprising to experience: when you can see what your body is doing, you can learn to change it.
What a session involves
Sensors track things you normally never notice: heart rhythm, skin temperature, muscle tension, breathing pattern. A screen turns those signals into something you can watch move in real time. With a therapist coaching you, you practice steering the numbers, slowing the heart, warming the hands, releasing the jaw. The skill transfers. After enough practice, you can down-shift your nervous system in a meeting, in traffic, or at 3 a.m. without any equipment at all.
Three related tools
Clinical biofeedback targets the body's stress machinery and helps with anxiety, chronic stress, tension and migraine headaches, and insomnia. HeartMath is a focused form built around heart-rhythm coherence, quick to learn and easy to practice at home. Neurofeedback works with brainwave activity itself and is often used alongside therapy for attention and trauma-related difficulties.
None of these involve medication. All of them produce a skill you keep.
Who tends to benefit
Clients who feel their anxiety physically (racing heart, tight chest, poor sleep) often make faster progress when biofeedback runs alongside counseling or EMDR. It also suits people who are skeptical of therapy but trust data they can see.
Biofeedback appointments happen at the Bend office on SW Columbia Street; HeartMath coaching also works well by video. Call (541) 550-7940 or reach out through the practice profile to ask whether it fits your situation.
