Sara Todd

I have worked in the mental health field for 20 years providing quality mental health care to marginalized communities. I believe that individual transformation is collective liberation.

I work collaboratively with those who are deeply curious about themselves and wanting to get to the root of what troubles them. Clients who seek me out are tired of repeating old patterns and ready for something new to emerge in their lives. I am skilled in supporting people who have endured and overcome a wide range of stressful life events and challenges and who value living the examined life. My goal is to help you understand yourself and your life in a deeper way that holds all the complexity. I highly value humility, warmth, patience, and curiosity in this work. 

My professional experience has included work in psychiatric hospitals, community mental health, a metropolitan LGBTQ community center, mental health services research, rural primary care and long-term substance use treatment. My therapeutic approach is grounded in psychoanalytic (also referred to as psychodynamic) theory. I obtained a Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, which required two years of post-graduate advanced clinical training. Additionally, I have taken courses and received training in: the integration of mindfulness and psychotherapy, feminist-relational treatment of complex trauma, medication assisted recovery, harm-reduction, and somatic practices. I consider myself a life-long student and am always engaged in deepening my therapeutic skills.
