About Steve

I am a licensed mental health counselor and AASECT certified sex therapist in private practice living in the Portland, OR region who specializes in treating Gender, Sexual, and Relationship Diverse (GSRD) clients. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies in 2006 from Vanguard University and my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 2009 from Wheaton College. I am currently working on completing my doctoral dissertation with an anticipated graduation date in late 2026 from California Southern University with a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology degree. My dissertation explores trends in stigmatization of kink-involved populations in a ten-year sample of mass news media articles.

Additionally, I volunteer at several nonprofits serving kink and consesual nonmonogamous populations. First, I serves as a board member at The National National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF - www.ncsfreedom.org). I am involved with research, advocacy, education, writing, and outreach tasks with the NCSF. I am also one of the principal investigators on a study with The Alternative Sexualities Health Research Alliance (TASHRA - www.tashra.org) studying kink authority transfer relationships. Finally I volunteer with a number of professional organizations including being the chair of a special interest group for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) and having reviewed conference presentations for multiple different professional organizations.
